CCA 2014 Annual Fashion Show

hair style

The CCA fashion show, once again proved itself to be a fantastic showcase for young up and coming designers.  Parading in their new space, the designers took many unexpected turns in their creative approach to modern dressing.  Texture and color were the main theme and of course, our creative director Moises Villa selected the most elegant perfect look that suited all of the elements.

diPietro Todd at Glaad Media Awards

As a hairdressing company that was founded in the 80s in San Francisco, we have witnessed the LGBT community take great strides and have always supported it’s advancement. Whether it’s contributing to the fight against AIDS or supporting marriage equality, we have watched and cheered as the world has changed. So it is no surprise that we were thrilled to participate in both the LA and NY GLAAD Media Awards this year.

GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), is an organization that protects and uplifts its community. Each year they hold the GLAAD Media Awards to reward actors, movies, directors and personalities who have accurately and positively portrayed the LGBT in the media. Our part was to provide hair touch ups backstage and celebrity gift bags courtesy of Kerastase and Shu Uemura as well as silent auction items. We needed some of our most talented stylists so we brought along Creative Director Moises Villa, educators Nona Zandinejad, Amy Hsueh, Diana Luong and John Mok. We had a ton of fun and were thrilled to style hair for a great cause.

25th Element

The pressure is on every year to top all of our fun and fantastic Xmas parties past but Andrew and Michael O’Rourke (party planner and Palo Alto colorist) have done it again and they went BIG at the Infusion lounge.   Ideas started flowing in January of 2013 with our desire to celebrate our silver anniversary while fantasizing about where we’ll be in 25 more years.   Just returning from London’s Salon International hair show, Andrew was inspired by parametric design and incorporated his ideas along with Michael’s into this years theme—The Future is Now dPT 2038.  It’s always hard to pick the top 3 winners for the evening, we had a 5th Element Lilu look alike 1st place winner- Maclaine DeFelice, Maggie Ponicsan  who looked like she jumped out of a video game and John Mok who called himself a futuristic space elf.  The amazing D.J. Chris Clouse kept everyone dancing all the way into the future.

Last night, Dipietro Todd gave a new meaning to “bed head” when Moises Villa, Hannah Skelton and Nona Zandinejad showed us how to make hair provocative for Agent Provocateur’s private party.  Wearing the store’s most current lingerie selection, pin-up style models donned sultry curls and a messy look that left you speculating if it was a curling iron technique or perhaps a rendez-vous in the dressing room that gave their hair its naughty look. Agent Provocateur was showing off their newly revamped space, and SF’s sexiest showed up for the event. With free flowing champagne, delicious appetizers, and a great DJ it’s hard to believe tonight’s guests have a better, perhaps more intimate, after-party to run off to.

Collective V2 was a big success. For those of you who were cheering us on from the crowd, or thinking us us from afar, thank you for your continued support as we presented our latest inspirations in hair, fashion, music and most of all our thoughts on education.

This year in color we featured a mixed palette of tones and techniques ranging from apricot, pastels and classic sunny blonde balayage to vibrant reds and cool brown palettes. Paired with all white and gold fashions the hair color became the focal point, while showing texture with fringe.

For our cutting segment we were inspired by vibrant colors and textures in tribal street wear and the individual. Our shapes expressed graphic outlines and soft interiors, working with expanding the natural texture and observing growth patterns.

Lastly in our styling segment we took inspiration from vintage glamour and paired it with contemporary textures and finishes by shifting balances and mixing matte, pleated textures and smooth high-gloss shapes.

Thank you to everyone that made this show happen, your support is much appreciated. Stay in touch with diPietro Todd Academy through Facebook or this blog and get up to date news and events.
